Growing with Care provides therapeutic landscape design services and consultations to healthcare and residential clients. Chris Garcia is a landscape designer with a B.A. in Landscape Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. Chris has visited and evaluated therapeutic outdoor environments at over two-dozen medical facilities across the country. These healthcare settings include acute-care hospitals, veteran's hospitals, burn centers, cancer centers, psychiatric facilities, assisted living, nursing homes, and hospices. Chris has consulted with healthcare facilities in California and South Florida and currently provides design services in the San Diego region.
Healthcare Design Process:
1. Walk-Through with healthcare administrator to discuss key outdoor areas, past patterns of use, safety and accessibility, interior/exterior program of care, and initial design ideas.
2. Site Analysis: Behavioral mapping (existing patterns of use and circulation in each space); interviews/surveys with patients, families, and staff; Environmental analysis (solar orientation, shadows, wind, drainage); site measurement.
3. Initial Schematic Design: Plan and sections. Preliminary review by administrator, staff, patients and families. Input/ recommendations.
4. Final Schematic Design: Plan, sections, and perspectives. Second review for fine tuning and next steps.
5. Planting Plan/ Material Specifications: Cost estimates/ adjustments.
